Writing assignment, 500 words: “What are three stories in my life that I would have to include in my autobiography?”
Getting a new pet, when you met a friend, or an addition to the family, some things you never forget. I will never forget my youngest sister’s arrival. She did not come in the usual way. No parents sitting the family down to announce that your mom is pregnant, you will soon have another sibling. We knew she was coming. We did not know her name, age, color, race, nope, nothing about her. We just knew she would come one day. We are a foster family. We decided to be a foster family after realizing the need for them. My father finished the training, and then we waited. We waited for six months. We received a few calls but nothing final. In truth we forgot about it in a way. That’s when God decided to throw us the curve ball. We were at the library when Grandma received a phone call. Papa had called, our sister was coming in an hour. We rushed home. The house was not very neat, we cleaning like lightening till she arrived. The case worker got out of the car and opened the backdoor…
“A religion that is pure and stainless according to God the Father is this: to take care of orphans and widows who are suffering, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.”
James 1:27
Old Friends. You hate them, you love them, you think they will last forever. Sometimes they do, often they don’t. When I was little my sister and I were friends with a girl. We thought we were best friends. Sent each other letters, spent all day together, I believe she thought we would be friends forever too. I’m not quite sure what went wrong. Perhaps her parents. Perhaps she just got older. But we stopped talking. We did not call and we did not see one another. She became mean when we were together. She had other friends and cut us out when they were around. It’s as if she did not like us anymore. One of those friends was a girl my age. I remember with a chuckle how my sister and I collected Sandspurs and Romerillo seeds dried them, and plotted to dump them on the girls when they walked by. We thought fondly of how long they would spend, picking them out of their hair. The evils of a little girl’s mind. In the end, that other girl and I became friends.

“The friendship of Yahweh is with those who fear him. He will show them his covenant.”
Psalms 25:14
Goats were a large part of my childhood. We bought a few when I was about 9. That started our journey into the world of milk, cheese, ice cream and death. We lost many goats. The deaths hurt more than you would think. In fact, I became desensitized to the deaths. When one would die, I did not cry, we buried them and moved one. Yet I never forgot a goat. Some deaths were from my negligence, some were because we did not know what we should do. We have learned about things we had no idea about, worms, coccidia, azaleas, pasture rotation. Every goat has been a blessing from God.
“But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory. 32 Before him all the nations will be gathered, and he will separate them one from another, as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.”

All these stories sound so interesting! If you write a biography some day, I would definitely read it!

Awwe! Thanks Brooke! I believe I will be writing an autobiography of sorts as a school assignment actually. So you may get to read it on my blog. Which story was your favorite?

I think the one having to do with goats. As someone who lives on a farm, it seems super interesting and relatable.

Corrie so good to read your recollections about past happenings. It’s what shapes us and helps create who God wants us to be.

Thanks! I would not go as far as to say professional, but I try and make myself clear.
